Windmill Farm & Vineyard Engagement

wedding-country-wilton-sacramento_0265

I left it up to Jennifer & Jeremy to pick a spot for their engagement photos, and they did a great job in finding a beautiful location just outside of Woodland in Yolo county. Windmill Farm & Vineyard is a quaint wedding venue and it was so nice to be surrounded by olive orchards and grape vineyards. There are barns and tractors, old fences and an old porch to sit on while you gaze out at the rolling hills. This is a great spot for a country vineyard wedding! We started by the pond and worked our way up the road to watch the sunset behind the hills of Northern California wine country.

Their dog Indiana joined us, and he was very willing to take photos.

Wilton Country Wedding | Sacramento Wedding Photographer

wedding-country-wilton-sacramento_0236

This small country wedding was so relaxed and intimate, I felt like a guest and not a wedding photographer. Tara and Zac rented a country house 45 minutes from Downtown Sacramento, in Wilton, CA. Their quaint wedding had a pond backdrop surrounded by trees and countryside. Tara made her bouquet, favors, and much of the decor. The groom made amazing enchiladas for the guests…yum! Everything was so laid back and personal, it was a great way to spend their most important day. The sun was setting behind the big house when they said their vows. It was perfect.

Succulent wedding favors (my favorite) and very cool DIY paper bouquets.

I got to hang out with the groom and groomsmen for a change. These guys were goofing around and having fun. True friends.

Tara and Zac were lucky enough to have Zac’s dad officiate the wedding.

The bride and groom had each other’s wedding bands engraved and waited for a special moment to read what the other wrote…let’s just say Zac has a good sense of humor!

Loomis Flower Farm Inn Wedding

fun-wedding-photo-booth-photography_0158

Wedding flowers are one of my favorite things about a wedding (my college personality exam said I should be a florist!) so when they are as breathtaking as these were, I can’t stop taking photos of them!  This time the flowers were done by someone special…the groom! Brandon is an amazing floral designer at Morningside Florist and he was able to make a perfect balance of casual (farm style wedding) and elegant. Plus, succulents were a main feature in the reception hall, so of course it was awesome!

These arrangements speak for themselves, and they were the perfect backdrop to the quaint venue–Loomis Flower Farm Inn. This was my first time photographing a wedding here and it is a great place to have a casual yet picturesque wedding. And if you love gardens and flowers like I do, there is an abundance of beautiful spots for taking photos.

The guests were welcomed with lush arrangements in wooden trunks. They were framed with antique windows and wine barrels. The combination of greenery, flowers, succulents, wood, and glass made this area feel very inviting.

The ceremony aisle was perfectly adorned with mason jars and gorgeous hydrangeas and roses. fun-wedding-photo-booth-photography_0159

Inside the farmhouse, there were wooden boxes with floral arrangements in corals and greens. Lambs ears, hydrangeas, succulents, and roses were a few of the plants used. fun-wedding-photo-booth-photography_0165

The favors were succulents in small jars…the perfect touch to make the table look great. fun-wedding-photo-booth-photography_0164

The bridal bouquet was soft and elegant.fun-wedding-photo-booth-photography_0160

And the coral bridesmaid bouquets were bright and fun with pops of gold leaf clusters and pearls. fun-wedding-photo-booth-photography_0161

The Romance of Roses

Rose boquet

When a bride is choosing her flowers, it can be a bit overwhelming. I mean, there really aren’t any flowers that are not beautiful, right? (maybe we should do an ugly flower contest to see who can find one)

Anyway, I have always had an affinity for roses. After all, they are a symbol of love. I also have a brother that is an avid rose grower and aficionado, who grows the most amazing roses. Just walking around collecting for a bouquet, flower crown, or vase full of roses will make your senses go crazy! All of the different smells and color pallets…pure heaven.

I recently did a photo shoot of my daughter in a vintage flower girl dress that I wore at her age when I was in a neighbor’s wedding. We took the photos in my brother’s rose garden. I made a small bouquet out of miniature roses and small rose buds from the leftover roses of her flower crown. The colors, texture, and fragrance that roses emit is a very simple but wonderful pleasure!

Stay tuned for my “flower girl” photos in an upcoming blog!

American River Sunset and Beautiful Baby Bump

I love maternity photos!  This is a special baby belly…my friend and masseuse Danette was expecting and I was very excited to take these photos for her. Danette gave me many a pregnancy massage when I was expecting. Her and her hubby own and operate Keola Bodyworks in West Sacramento. These fitness and nutrition gurus were willing to take a little walk along the river with me to get some great photos!

As you can see it was a beautiful evening along the American River Trail in Fair Oaks, CA. These new parents to be and the gorgeous sunset made it hard to stop taking photos once we were done!

Cruising around the California Coast

My husband and I just celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary(!) by taking a grandiose tour of the Central California Coast.  We planned on camping in Big Sur, but so did a LOT of other people. At the site we were coveting (which had 5 empty but reserved spaces), we found a handwritten note on the “camp host” site (since they were not anywhere to be found) that said to go to a campground 12 miles inland where there was space. Well…it wasn’t exactly an easy 12 miles. It was a VERY narrow and VERY steep road that lead us to the most dry, boring, and bug laden campgrounds we had ever seen. We would have had the place to ourselves, but when it became obvious we would not be staying, my husband decided we may as well keep going because we were close to a military reservation that he has trained at in the past. So we kept on truckin’ and headed through quite beautiful untouched land. My husband assured me there would be a vacancy in the hotel and we would just stay one night, get our game plan ready and head out early in the morning. When he said I would love the place, I kind of thought, yeah, right…as I looked around at old buildings spread out in desolation. But he was right. I loved it. Nothing fancy, and far from civilization, but so neat to stay in a mission-style hacienda built by W.R. Hearst in 1930.

*warning–iPhone photos! Gasp!

This was the view of Big Sur as we climbed up the steeeeep hill of winding road in search of a campsite.

When we drive up to the lodging, to my surprise it was a beautiful Spanish Mission style building!

Hacienda at Ft Hunter Liggett

I absolutely loved the carved wood windows and doors. Everything had so much character.

As I start looking around, I realized this would be an amazing place to have a wedding!  Typical wedding photographer. I could always marry my husband again…

This tile right outside our room was a rare example of Talavera Tile work c1930 Puebla, Mexico

The more we walk around an explore the Hacienda, the more I love it. I can envision a wedding ceremony on this grassy hill!

Back at our room, I couldn’t get enough of the details. They have kept it as historically sound as possible.

The view from the Hacienda was pretty great as well.  I think this sunset lasted for 2 hours. Not kidding.

We will be going back to the Hacienda!  It is very close to Moro Bay and San Luis Obispo (Hearst and his farm hands used to ride horses from here to San Simeon!), and the great rates make it worth stopping on the way to your destination.

If you would like to learn more about the history of the Hacienda or have a destination wedding on their beautifully manicured landscaping overlooking the Santa Lucia mountain range, check out the pdf or the military website. It is open to civilians!

The cutest almost 2 year olds explore the forrest

I may be a tad biased, but I am thinking these kiddos are pretty cute. I am creating a really cool album through BLURB. I am a little behind on making personal albums (ahem) so when I saw the flash sale for 35% off I had to go in and finish up some projects to get my books ordered by monday (tomorrow!!!)

These sweet children are a bit older now, but they still love each other! I will be doing an actual photo shoot with these two coming up soon, so stay tuned for that!
